Durgeswar Barua, a known social worker, former panchayat representative, former president of Chilabandha Samabai Society, an active member of Assam Agitation and a resident of Patalor Chuk here, breathed his last at his residence due to a prolonged illness on Saturday night. He was 81. A follower of Sankari culture, Late Barua was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area. Representatives of various organizations and individuals including Chilabandha Samabai Samiti, Bapuji Bhawan Natya Samaj, Jamuguri chapter of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Naduar Press Club, Patalor Chuk VDC, Patalor Chuk primary branch of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, among others, visited his house this morning and paid homage to his mortal remains. Barua leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, and other relatives. His demise has cast a pall of gloom in the area.
