Orientation Meeting Held for District-Level IRS Training and Mock Exercise in Tezpur

An orientation meeting was held on Saturday in connection with the proposed “District-Level Training on IRS and Mock Exercise” scheduled to be conducted on December 6 and December 7 in Tezpur.

Tezpur: An orientation meeting was held on Saturday in connection with the proposed “District-Level Training on IRS and Mock Exercise” scheduled to be conducted on December 6 and December 7 in Tezpur. The meeting held at the conference hall of the DC’s office Sonitpur was chaired by Ankur Bharali, District Commissioner-cum-Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur.

In his opening remarks, the DC highlighted the significance of the Incident Response System (IRS), noting that the scheduled training and mock exercise aim to provide an overview of the roles, responsibilities, and coordination required among various stakeholders during natural or man-made disasters. The District Project Officer of DDMA, Sonitpur, provided a brief overview of the proposed training and mock exercise. He informed attendees that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in collaboration with DDMA, Sonitpur, will conduct a training and tabletop exercise session on December 6. This will be followed by a mock exercise/drill on December 7, 2024, simulating two disaster scenarios—an earthquake and a fire. The roles and responsibilities of various line department officials, including those from Transport, Health, Fire and Emergency Services, Armed Forces, Police, Traffic, Public Works Department, APRO, DIPRO, Water Resources, Inspector of Schools, SDRF/NDRF, and others, were discussed and outlined during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, ADC cum CEO DDMA Garga Mohan Das, JDHS Dr. Rupak Baruah, officials from the Army and SSB, along with DDMA staff, District IRS officials, and representatives from relevant line departments.
