NAGAON: Noted scholar of Sankari art and literature and researcher Tilak Chandra Majumdar was presented the 'Sankardeva Study Award' by the Paresh Baishya Foundation at a ceremony held at his residence here on Sunday. The award, which includes a citation, a shawl, a japie (a traditional Assamese hat), a souvenir, a gamosa (a traditional Assamese scarf), and a book, was presented to Majumdar by Paresh Baishya, Founder of Paresh Baishya Foundation. Speaking on the occasion, Baishya said that the foundation was established with an initial fund of Rs 127 and has now grown to have over Rs 20 lakh currently. He also spoke about the foundation's objectives, which include promoting education and culture.
Majumdar, who has dedicated his life to researching the life and works of Shankardev, a 15th-century Assamese saint and scholar, expressed his gratitude for the award. He said that he felt humbled by the recognition and acknowledged that his work on Sankardeva was a lifelong commitment.
