'Phat Bihu has strengthened bond of unity'

LAKHIMPUR: The three-day long annual celebration of Phat Bihu, the unique convergence of the ethnic cultures in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district, concluded on Sunday. Hundreds of cultural groups representing the indigenous tribes and communities of the State, several thousands people from other districts and native district thronged in the festival venue on three days at Mohghuli Chapori, the beautiful landscape on the bank of the River Charikoria, to celebrate the occasion ignoring the adverse weather.

The agenda of the concluding day kicked off with a cultural rally showcasing the native cultures of almost all indigenous communities of the region and heritage, tradition, historical events of the State through attractive tableaus . The cultural rally was inaugurated by popular cine actress Amrita Gogoi. It was followed by the traditional performance of Mukali Bihu under trees, which is the main attraction of the Phat Bihu. The programme was inaugurated by artiste Rupa Mili. A total of 30 cultural groups representing various communities took part in the programme.

On the other hand, the public meeting of the festival commenced with Phat Bihu Samiti president Basanta Saikia in the chair. It was inaugurated by prominent actor Pranjal Saikia. Sports, Youth Welfare and Cultural Affair Minister Bimal Borah graced the occasion as chief guest. In his lecture, the minister lauded the people of Dhakuakhana for continuing the celebration of the unique festival year after year. "Phat Bihu has strengthened the bond of unity in diversity. Such unique culture is hard to find in the world," the minister stated.
