Dongkamukam: Along with the rest of the world, World Environment Day was observed in West Karbi Anglong district.
This year, the theme was “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The day was marked by plantation drives in government and private school premises, departmental offices, and along roadsides. Plastic waste was collected and disposed of by students, teachers, activists from various NGOs, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
The main objective of this year’s observance was to tackle plastic pollution by encouraging countries, organizations, groups, and individuals to work together to protect the planet for future generations.
At Don Bosco Higher Secondary Schools in Dongkamukam and Satgaon, students of Classes IX and X participated by planting trees and conducting a cleaning drive. They cleaned the Assam Mala Road in Satgaon and the East Bhellapara Road.
The students also organized a march, chanting slogans and holding placards with messages such as “Save Environment,” “Plant Trees,” “Save Mother Earth,” and “Say No to Plastic.”
