Dibrugarh: Along with different parts of India, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi scheme (PM-Kisan Yojana) was inaugurated in Dibrugarh too on Sunday. Held under the aegis of the District Agriculture Department and Agriculture Science Congress, an awareness meeting revolving around the scheme also took place after the inauguration. Speaking at the event, MLA of Lahoal, Rituparna Baruah stressed the need to generate more awareness about the scheme so that every eligible farmer was able to derive benefits out of it.

Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, in his speech, urged the Agriculture Department to do the needful to ensure that the scheme launched by the Central Government was able to include the maximum number of small and marginal farmers within its fold. Thus far, 40,950 farmers of the district have registered themselves for the scheme that aims to dish out an annual amount of Rs 6,000 in three instalments to all small and marginal farmers having combined land holdings and ownership of up to two hectares of land. These beneficiaries will soon start having the instalment amounts being transferred to their bank accounts.
