GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the design of the New Integrated Terminal Building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati on February 24. He was accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the event.

According to a statement from the Adani Group-operated Guwahati Airport, the terminal's design draws inspiration from Assam’s natural beauty, featuring a distinctive Bamboo Orchids theme. This theme symbolizes biodiversity, strength, and sustainability while seamlessly blending with the region’s cultural and natural heritage.

Officials said that adding bamboo and orchids to the design shows the airport's commitment to being eco-friendly and sustainable.

Currently under construction, the terminal is designed to handle 1.3 crore passengers annually, making it as the first of its kind in Northeast India. It is expected to be operational by the last quarter of 2025.

Meanwhile, billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, has pledged to invest Rs. 50,000 crore in Assam over the next few years. The proposed investments will span across diverse sectors such as airports, aero-cities, city gas distribution, transmissions, cement and road infrastructure projects.

"Assam is on a path to greatness and at the Adani group, we are honoured to walk this path alongside you," Adani said while addressing the gathering at Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit underway in Guwahati.
