DHEKIAJULI: In a major cultural initiative aimed at connecting Assam’s rich spiritual and literary heritage with the broader national and global community, the All Assam Satra Mahasabha announced the organization of a grand event titled ‘Setubandhan 2025,’ scheduled to be held in the first week of September at Dhekiajuli. The announcement was made during a special session convened on Monday at the Lakshminath Bezbaruah Hall of Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College in Dhekiajuli.

The special meeting, presided over by Tulsi Barthakur, President of the Sonitpur District Satra Mahasabha, saw in-depth deliberations on the Mahasabha’s past achievements, ongoing initiatives, and future roadmap. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Prantik Goswami, Chief Secretary of the Mahasabha and Satradhikar of Shri Shri Jagaral Satra, offered a detailed overview of the Mahasabha’s foundation, mission, and expanding cultural footprint.

One of the major highlights of his address was the announcement of an ambitious plan to translate the literary works of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva into English and Hindi. Goswami emphasized that through this effort, the timeless wisdom, philosophy, and devotional expressions of Sankardeva could reach not only every Indian state but also the international audience. “It is not through words but actions that we aim to establish the ideals, literature, and Sattriya cultural heritage of Mahapurush Sankardeva on the global stage,” he asserted.

Goswami also spoke about the remarkable legacy of Ai Kanaklata, the granddaughter-in-law of Sankardeva, who was instrumental in reviving the sacred Batadrava Than after it had fallen into neglect. To honour her contributions, the Mahasabha has already established the ‘Ai Kanaklata University’ in Goalpara, which will offer research-based academic programmes on Satra philosophy and culture. He further informed the audience about upcoming cultural colleges to be set up in Golaghat, Mangaldoi, and Dhemaji.

In a landmark decision taken during the session, the Mahasobha resolved to invite the President of India as the chief guest for the Setubandhan 2025 ceremony. Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will be invited to serve as the chief patron of the event. The responsibility of event patronage will also be shared by Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal and Barchola MLA Ganesh Kumar Limbu, as declared by the organizing committee.

The organizing body also announced key appointments for the event, featuring President Dr Sukdev Adhikari, Principal, Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Working President, social worker Ratul Kumar Nath, vice-president Bhagawan Baishya, president, Dhekiajuli Press Club Secretary, Dipen Nath, Publicity Secretary, Kalpajyoti Nath, Chief Secretary, Dhekiajuli Writers and Journalists Forum.

With its emphasis on cultural revival, academic outreach, and national integration, Setubandhan 2025 is poised to become a milestone event in Assam’s spiritual and socio-cultural calendar.
