Haflong: At a time when the entire nation is fighting coronavirus and the government is trying its best to ease the difficulties of the citizens, in Dima Hasao the employees of Public Health Engineering are yet to receive their salary for the last nine months.

At least 538 employees of Haflong, Maibang and Umrangso divisions of the PHE Department have been running from pillar to post for the past several months for payment of their salary but their pleas have been unheard.

Bipul Longmailai, general secretary of the Haflong branch of the All Assam PHE Employees’ Association, while talking to this correspondent, said, “Employees of the PHE department of Dima Hasao district did not receive our salary since the last nine months due to which their families are facing a lot of hardships. Some of the employees could not continue their medical treatment and their health is deteriorating day-by-day and they are unable to perform their duties, while others have been compelled to discontinue the studies of their wards.”

This has created a lot of resentment among the employees. These posts were regularized by the Government of Assam in the year 2005. The problem was created due to the change of method of payment from offline to online from April, 2019. Longmailai said that files of employees of Haflong division, Maibang division and Unrangshu division were lying on the table for clearance. He further said that a memorandum was also submitted to State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding non-receipt of monthly salary of all categories of employees of the PHE department in the entire district of Dima Hasao since the last nine months.
