HAFLONG: The Divisional Railway Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Lumding Division, Samir Lohani, stated that rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur was expected to be restored by Sunday. Lohani is overseeing the restoration work near Jatinga Lampur, where a massive landslide occurred on Monday, disrupting both road and rail connectivity.

10 excavators were working on clearing the debris, with 20 more machines enroute to the site. The railway team is working diligently to restore the track and resume rail services.

While railway officials are optimistic about meeting the Sunday deadline, some experts believe that the extent of the damage might pose challenges in adhering to the timeline. Officials of the NHAI are assessing the area to find an alternative route.

Meanwhile several people were seen passing the landslide area on foot to reach their destinations. Several hundreds of trucks have been stranded on both ends, eagerly waiting for the path to clear. The route is a crucial line since vehicles carrying necessary supplies like rations, fuel, etc. for neighbouring states like Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur passes through the district apart from the Barak Valley district.
