GUWAHATI: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, will be on a day-long visit to Guwahati today.
During his visit, the minister will flag off three new trains from Guwahati Railway Station: the Guwahati–New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger Train, and the Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express. He will also dedicate the Tetelia Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Dispur.
In addition, the minister will virtually inaugurate a 10 KW FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar. Since its establishment on August 15, 1999, Akashvani Kokrajhar has operated a 20 KW Medium Wave transmitter.
The new FM transmitter will enhance coverage and provide better reception quality within a 70-kilometer radius, benefiting over 30 lakh residents of Kokrajhar and nearby districts, including Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang.
Vaishnaw will also virtually inaugurate the NIELIT (National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology) Deemed to be University from the railway station.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to visit the Tata Semiconductor factory at Jagiroad. Additionally, the minister will review ongoing projects of the Northeast Frontier Railway during his visit.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, the revised train schedule was implemented by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) from January 1 onwards. Numerous adjustments were made to the timetable to improve connectivity, enhance passenger convenience, and streamline operations throughout the region.
The speeding up of 43 trains in the new schedule, which drastically reduced travel time on important routes, was one of its main benefits. For example, the Kamakhya-Gomti Nagar Express (Train No. 15077) saved 75 minutes, and the SMVT Bengaluru-New Tinsukia Express (Train No. 22501) became 120 minutes faster.
Likewise, the Dibrugarh-Howrah Express (Train No. 15962) took 60 minutes less to reach its destination. These changes demonstrated NFR's dedication to offering passengers quicker and more effective services.
