KHERONI: In a significant development concerning railway services in Karbi Anglong, a longstanding demand for the stoppage of the prestigious 12423/12424 New Delhi–Dibrugarh Town Rajdhani Express (Daily) at Diphu Railway Station remains unfulfilled, despite official approval at the highest level.

Member of Parliament from Diphu Lok Sabha constituency, Amarsing Tisso, had formally raised the issue by submitting a letter dated July 20, 2024, to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India. In the letter, MP Tisso highlighted the need for the daily Rajdhani Express to halt at Diphu, a vital administrative and commercial hub in the region.

Responding positively, the Union Minister for Railways endorsed the proposal and conveyed his support via letter No.2025/CHG/13/NFR/07/Part-1 dated May 28, 2025, addressed to MP Amarsing Tisso. Following this, the Joint Director (Coaching), Railway Board, New Delhi, directed the General Manager of North Frontier Railway (NFR), Guwahati, along with other concerned divisional railway authorities, to implement the necessary stoppage arrangements.

However, despite this official directive from the Railway Board, no action has been taken on the ground by the responsible railway officials. There has been no communication, acknowledgment, or initiative from the relevant NFR officials or divisions to implement the stoppage, leading to public discontent and criticism of the railway department.

This inaction has been described as a major administrative failure by many local leaders and organizations, who are now questioning the accountability of railway officials in translating policy approvals into real-time service delivery.

The people of Diphu and surrounding areas continue to suffer the inconvenience of having no Rajdhani halt at their station despite high-level assurance and bureaucratic clearance.

Local citizens and public representatives have now urged the Ministry of Railways to take immediate steps to ensure that the sanctioned stoppage was executed without further delay and that the railway officials responsible for the delay be held accountable.
