GUWAHATI: Like previous years, this year too, the Ramkrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati observed the 190th Birth Tithi Celebration of Bhagawan Sri Ramkrishna Deva on 1st March 2025 followed by public celebrations on 2nd March & from 7th to 9th March 2025.
On the 1st of March, a special Puja and Homa of Sri Ramkrishna Deva were observed, along with devotional songs and a discourse on his life and teachings. Approximately 5,000 devotees and well-wishers congregated at the Ashram premises to pay obeisance to Sri Ramkrishna and partake in Khichuri prasad. In the evening, devotional songs were performed following the evening prayer.
In the evening of 2nd March, a cultural function was arranged at the Ashrama Campus. Taher Ali and his team from Guwahati presented Goalparia and Kamrupi Lokageet. Biswajit Garai from West Bengal mesmerized the audience with Baul Sangeet.
In the evening of 7th March 2025, Swami Divyalokananda Maharaj, a monk from the Ramkrishna Mission in Shillong, presented devotional songs followed by a beautiful Geeti Alekhya titled "Sangeet Rasik Sri Ramkrishna," performed by Jasodeb Arjun and Subhrendu Das. The program was attended by a large audience at the Vivekananda Hall.
The Bhakta Sanmelan was held at the Ashram premises on 8th March, with 265 devotees participating. Swami Shivapradananda Maharaj, Secretary of the Ramkrishna Mission Vidyapeeth in Purulia (WB), and Swami Vishwatmananda Maharaj, Adhyaksha of the Ramkrishna Advaita Ashrama in Varanasi, spoke on the importance and significance of the Bhakta Sanmelan, as well as the life and teachings of Sri Sri Thakur, Sri Maa, and Swami Vivekananda. The event included Vedic chanting, devotional songs, guided meditation, readings from Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature and discourses.
A public meeting was arranged in the auditorium at the Ashram campus on the evening of 9th March. A large number of devotees, well-wishers and admirers of Sri Ramkrishna-Vivekananda attended the meeting. Swami Vishwatmananda Maharaj, Adhyaksha of the Ramkrishna Advaita Ashrama in Varanasi, presided over the meeting.
Pranati Devi, retired Head of the Department of Philosophy at B. Barooah College, Guwahati, graced the meeting as the chief guest and spoke on the subject "Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda." Swami Shivapradananda Maharaj, Secretary of the Ramkrishna Vidyapeeth in Purulia, attended the function as the guest speaker and presented a motivational speech on "Sri Maa Sarada."
Swami Vishwatmananda Maharaj, in his speech, enlightened the audience on the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Ramkrishna. On this occasion, 12 sewing machines and 8 Tantsaals were distributed among poor and needy women. Additionally, 16 meritorious students from underprivileged families were awarded scholarships.
