Rare Slow loris rescued in Gohpur; released into natural habitat

A rare slow loris was rescued late on Thursday night from Chatrang Lalpani village under Gohpur police station by the police with the help of local residents.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: A rare slow loris was rescued late on Thursday night from Chatrang Lalpani village under Gohpur police station by the police with the help of local residents. Getting information about the presence of an unusual animal in the village, a police team from Gohpur PS rushed to the location and discovered that the animal was, in fact, a slow loris, a nocturnal primate species that is protected under wildlife laws due to its declining population and ecological importance.

Demonstrating utmost care, the police personnel safely secured the animal and coordinated with officials of the forest department. The rescued animal was subsequently handed over to the forest department team, who ensured its medical examination and later released into a suitable natural habitat.

Nature lovers highly appreciated the awareness and prompt reporting by the local villagers, whose actions were instrumental in saving this endangered species and also the police team for their timely response.
