BOKAKHAT: A rat snake created panic after entering a house near Badulipar. The snake caused a terrifying situation in the home of Shivaram Dutta in Rongamati Cheuni village, under Dergaon Police Station in Golaghat district.
Reportedly, earlier on Thursday around noon, Shivaram Dutta’s son, Pankaj Dutta, had returned from work and was resting with his two-year-old child. His father was also lying down on another bed in the same room. Suddenly, a large rat snake slithered into their room, knocking over a couple of household items. The noise woke Pankaj, who was shocked to see the giant snake in the middle of the room.
He somehow managed to grab his sleeping child and exit the room. He then called for help from nearby residents. In response, over a hundred villagers gathered at the house and made several attempts to drive the snake out, but no one could successfully remove it. Some people even suggested killing the snake, but Pankaj didn’t allow anyone to harm it. Instead, he informed the district forest department.
Responding to the alert, a team from the Golaghat Regional Forest Office under the Golaghat Forest Division, led by Officer Ihoom Shyam, arrived at Shivaram Dutta’s house and, after much effort, managed to capture the snake from the room.
Only after the snake was secured did the family and villagers breathe a sigh of relief. At a time when many would resort to killing wild animals, Pankaj showed humanity by choosing not to kill the snake that had caused terror in his home, and instead contacted the forest department. When asked by locals, the forest officer confirmed that the captured snake was a rat snake (locally known as Chakori Feti).
