DIBRUGARH: The Rohmoria Erosion Resistance Struggle Forum (RERSF) on Thursday came down heavily on the contractors for slow pace of anti-erosion work at Rohmoria. Rohmoria, situated at Lahowal Legislative Assembly constituency in Dibrugarh.
Addressing a press conference here, Jitul Dutta, president of RERSF, slammed the sub-contractor for the slow pace of anti-erosion work at Rohmoria. "Due to slow pace of work the project crossed the deadline period. As per the work schedule, March 31, 2022, was the deadline but due sluggish pace of work, the project was affected," Dutta alleged.
Dutta said, "For three projects Rs 21 crore was allocated for the anti-erosion work of 9-km stretch of Rohmoria. We have been closely monitoring the work and found lots of anomalies in the work. Many sub-contractors were engaged in the anti-erosion work at Rohmoria and they have not done the work properly. The main contractor didn't come to the project site and gave the work to the sub contractor. We demand that the main contractor should come to the work site to inspect the work."
"We are monitoring the work because after long struggle, we have got the fund for anti-erosion work at Rohmoria. We have seen that the main contractor have given the work to the sub-contractors and they are doing the whole work. The main contractor didn't bother to come here for inspection, and as a result the work has been delayed. The anti-erosion work should be completed within the stipulated time. Some of the sub-contractors who have got the work are members of the ruling party," alleged Sanjay Baruah, secretary of RERSF.
He further said, "During a meeting at Rohmoria, Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika said that no sub-contractor should be given the anti-erosion work at Rohmoria. But it seems that the main contractors had given the work to sub-contractors which delayed the project work."
