DHUBRI: Deep resentment prevails among the consumers for alleged duping in weight and measurement by a section of vendors and traders. After being duped for several years, the consumers submitted a memorandum to Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, urging him to take necessary steps to stop the illegal practice by a section of vendors and traders.

On behalf of consumers, an ardent social workers, Simul Sarkar, said that through the memorandum, they drew the attention of the Deputy Commissioner towards the important issue of using illegal measuring weight, even using stones and other forms of iron, by a section of vendors and traders in the market area as well as by the door-to-door vendors who sell fish and vegetables daily. "Moreover, we also observed that a section of traders of the town are also using electronic measuring tools but they manipulate the machine by set the weighing less internally, and thus they dupe the consumers and earn extra money," Sarkar alleged.

He also alleged that vendors and traders never renew or get the weighing tools certified from the authority concerned. Further, the weight and measurement department also does not check these things, he further alleged.
