NAZIRA: Prominent social worker, retired Superintendent of the Supply Department of the Arunachal Pradesh Government, and eyewitness to the 1962 Chinese aggression, Gul Mohammad Bora, passed away at the age of 88 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sivasagar on Thursday.
A resident of Mathiachiga Nahartal under Nazira co-district, Bora’s death has cast a pall of grief across the region. As news of his demise spread, a large number of admirers and well-wishers gathered at his residence to pay their last respects.
Bora retired as a Superintendent from the Civil Supplies Department of the Arunachal Pradesh government in 1996. During the 1962 Indo-China war, he was serving in Hayuliang in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district. While carrying out his official duties, he witnessed the devastating Chinese attack and was subsequently rescued by the Indian Army after remaining stranded for a considerable period. He was later brought back to Assam.
His Janaza prayers were held on Thursday night at the Singh Dwar Janaza Ghar in the presence of a large gathering of mourners and well-wishers.
Known for his gentle, humble and amiable nature, Bora was actively involved in social service and was highly respected in the area. His death has been widely mourned by people across the region.
He is survived by his wife, one son, three daughters, and other relatives.
