GUWAHATI: Assam's star all-rounder Riyan Parag is all set to return to cricket after a three-month break due to a shoulder injury. Parag underwent surgery and completed his recovery during this time. He will now lead the Assam team in an important Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, starting on January 30.
Parag last played in the T20I series against Bangladesh but missed the South Africa T20Is in November due to an injury. He was not selected for India's Champions Trophy squad, but his good performances in limited-overs cricket shows that he is a skilled player. With the final squad still undecided, Parag has a chance to impress selectors by performing well in domestic cricket.
Parag's return is a big help for Assam, who have had a tough season in Group D with two losses and four draws. Last season, Parag performed very well, with an average of 75.60, and played an important role in Assam’s improvement.
The Assam squad for the Saurashtra clash includes Riyan Parag (captain), Denish Das (vice-captain), Mukhtar Hussain, Mrinmoy Dutta, Rahul Singh, Dipjyoti Saikia, Parvez Musaraf, Sumit Ghadigaonkar (wk), Rishav Das, Anurag Talukdar (wk), Avinav Choudhury, Sibsankar Roy, Akash Sengupta, Pradyun Saikia, and Amlanjyoti Das.
Assam will look to turn their fortunes around with Parag's leadership and skill as they take on a formidable Saurashtra side.
