Silchar scholar shines at prestigious IAMCR 2025 conference in Singapore

Nilotpal Bhattacharjee, an alumnus of Assam University, Silchar, carved a name for himself and his institution at the prestigious IAMCR 2025 conference held in Singapore from July 13 to 17.

SILCHAR: Nilotpal Bhattacharjee, an alumnus of Assam University, Silchar, carved a name for himself and his institution at the prestigious IAMCR 2025 conference held in Singapore from July 13 to 17.

A doctoral researcher in the Department of Mass Communication under the mentorship of Associate Professor Dr Paromita Das, Bhattacharjee’s journey in Singapore began even before the conference formally opened. On July 12, he presented his work at the IAMCR Preconference hosted at Singapore Management University on the theme ‘Big Tech and Global Influence: Rethinking CSR, Soft Power, and Strategic Communication in a Digital World.’

Later, Bhattacharjee, who began his career in journalism with local dailies in Silchar, co-presented at the Technological University and its Wee Kim Wee School of Communication, a joint paper with his mentor, on ‘Big Tech as Soft Power Infrastructure: A Comparative Study of China’s Platform-Specific Digital Public Diplomacy in South Asia,’ during Parallel Session III.

On July 17, he delivered two solo papers in a session of the Media Production Analysis Working. Later that day, Bhattacharjee presented his second solo presentation, ‘Ink on Walls, Fire in the Streets: Graffiti’s Role in Shaping Political Resistance and Disrupting Authoritarian Narratives,’ at a session of the Communication, Social Justice and Democracy Working Group.

IAMCR, the International Association for Media and Communication Research, is one of the world’s foremost platforms for dialogue, critique, and advancement in the field of communication studies.
