Smuggled Sal timber worth Rs 1.5 lakh seized in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: The staff of the Forest department in Mangaldai, under the strict and tough leadership of the Divisional Forest Officer of North Kamrup Division, Dipak Deka, have intensified their operation against the organized gang of timber smugglers and recovered a good number of valuable Sal timber logs from a seized vehicle on Monday.

The staff of Mangaldai Forest Beat Office, led by Beat Officer Debabrata Sarma, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a DI vehicle bearing registration number AS 02 CC 0204 at Balugaon near Kharupetia town and recovered valuable Sal timber worth Rs. 1.5 lakh from the vehicle owned by one RamishUddin of Nagaon district. The vehicle with the smuggled timber was coming from Doboka in Hojai district towards Guwahati. The road distance from Nagaon to Guwahati is only 130 km but significantly, the driver had chosen the route via Tezpur –Mangaldai-Guwahati covering a distance of 245 km.

Forester Aminur Rahman, forest guards Saiful Islam, Ajit Saharia and Uttam Kalita extended all cooperation to Forest Beat Officer Debabrata Sarma in this successful drive.
