TEZPUR: Sonitpur district joined the rest of Assam today in solemnly observing “Shok Divas” to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic Dhemaji bomb blast of August 15, 2004.
A special programme was organized at the District Commissioner’s conference hall in Tezpur, where the Shok Divas pledge was read out, followed by a one-minute silent prayer in memory of the victims. The proceedings were led by Additional District Commissioner Jintu Bora. Officers and staff of the district administration, along with officials from the District Information and Public Relations Department, attended the observance.
Marking the day, various departments under Sonitpur district administration also held similar programmes in their respective offices, where employees took the pledge and observed a minute’s silence to honour the memory of the victims of the 2004 tragedy.
The Dhemaji blast, which occurred during an Independence Day programme, claimed the lives of several innocent citizens, leaving a deep scar on the collective memory of Assam. Each year, Shok Divas serves as a reminder of the need for peace and harmony while paying homage to the victims.
