Boko: Assam State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar held a review meeting on Thursday with the District Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from five districts of the state — Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Darrang, Nalbari and Morigaon — to assess the preparedness for the forthcoming Panchayat Elections.
The review meeting was held in the conference hall of the Integrated District Commissioner’s office at Amingaon in Kamrup district. During the meeting, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar discussed various aspects of the Panchayat elections’ preparedness, particularly the status of the publication of draft Panchayat electoral rolls post-delimitation, the availability of ballot boxes and manpower, security arrangements, and other related issues.
Alok Kumar directed the District Commissioners to focus on the accuracy of the draft electoral rolls to be published for the Panchayat elections. He also instructed them to take necessary steps to ensure that after the publication of the draft electoral rolls, adequate publicity is given to inform the public, and that the draft rolls are made available for verification at all Gaon Panchayats, Anchalik Panchayats, Zila Parishads, and District Commissioner’s offices.
Additionally, the State Election Commissioner urged the District Commissioners to focus on establishing a proper mechanism for addressing claims and objections related to the draft electoral rolls and to ensure the final publication of the electoral rolls within the stipulated time frame. In the meeting, the District Commissioners were also advised to carefully select distribution centres, ballot box receiving centres, counting centres, and strong rooms for the Panchayat elections, so as to avoid any disturbance to the high school and higher secondary examinations. The meeting was attended by IGP, CR, Devojyoti Mukherjee; DIGP CWR, Indrani Baruah; District Commissioners of Kamup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Nalbari, Morigaon and Darrang Deba Kumar Mishra, Sumit Sattawan, Varnali Deka, Devashish Sharma, Parag Kumar Kakaty respectively.
