ORANG: A significant step towards public health awareness was taken in Udalguri on Thursday with the launch of the diarrhea prevention campaign, aligning with similar efforts across Assam. The campaign was ceremoniously inaugurated at the Udalguri Sub-Health Centre by Dr N Binay Singh, Joint Director of the District Health Society, in the presence of health officials, ASHA workers, and members of the local community.
In his address, Dr Singh emphasized the seriousness of diarrhea, especially among children under five, and highlighted preventive measures that can save lives. He urged families to remain vigilant and maintain proper hygiene practices.
Dr Chandan Saha also spoke at the event, focusing on child care and early signs of diarrhea, stressing the importance of timely treatment to avoid complications. The campaign event witnessed active participation from various health functionaries including District NHM Programme Manager Bachel Toppo, District Media Expert Madhusmita Baishya, Dr Mukta Mala Brahma, Rubul Changakoti, Anjula Basumatary, Sanjeev Kujur, Cyril Mushahary, Raj Mushahary, Rumi Sarania, Anchai Daimari, and Sabita Daimari, among others.
Set to run until August 25, the campaign’s primary goal is to reduce child mortality due to diarrhea through awareness drives, community outreach, and household-level interventions. During this period, ASHA workers will visit homes with children under five to distribute ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) packets and educate families on symptoms, sanitation, and emergency care.
The event served not only as a formal launch but also as a clarion call to the community to unite in ensuring better health outcomes for the youngest members of society.
