GAURISAGAR: Jorhat MP Tapon Kumar Gogoi on Saturday evening inaugurated a lifesize statue of Mahabir Chilarai. Chilarai Park was also inaugurated at Dikhowmukh Kawaimari on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district which was constructed by Bir Chilarai Park Construction Committee.
On the occasion an inaugural function was held. In the function, Kumar Pranab Narayan, Chiarman of Koch Rajbongshi Development Council, Gakul Barman, Chief Executive of Kamatapur Autonomous Council, Subhas Dutta, Vice Chairman of State Housing Board graced the meeting as distinguished guests. Ratul Bharali, Pankaj Hazarika, president and secretary of Bir Chilarai Park Construction Committee respectively were present.
Unveiling the statue, MP Tapon Kumar Gogoi said that installation of statues of Assam heroes in every nook and corner of the state is a social responsibility. The reconstruction of this park will boost the courage and contribution of Chilarai towards building of the society. He also assured the people to provide solar light and open gymnasium in the park shortly. Earlier, the statue and the park was constructed under the initiative of the then State Transport Minister late Anjan Dutta near NH-37 at Gaurisagar in 1996. Due to four lane extension the said statue and park was shifted to Dikhowmukh Kawaimari and reconstructed with the compensation fund. The whole programme was anchored by Ananta Borah while Ratul Bharali gave the welcome speech.
