Stolen pickup truck recovered in Bokakhat; accused nabbed with help from locals

BOKAKHAT: A Bolero pickup truck bearing registration number AS05AC0450, which was stolen on Friday afternoon from Chongkola village under Khumtai police outpost, was recovered in the evening from a hidden location in Gormur under Bokakhat police station with the help of local residents. The Bokakhat police also managed to nab the vehicle thief.

The accused, identified as Madhab Saikia alias Madhab Bora, had stolen the vehicle belonging to Pankaj Phukan from the front of his house. When the vehicle was not found where it was parked, the owner raised an alarm and informed Khumtai police over the phone. After contacting various sources, a photo of the vehicle was circulated on social media. Upon seeing the photo online, friends and acquaintances spotted the vehicle near Gormur and informed the Bokakhat police. The police then recovered the vehicle and brought it to the Bokakhat police station.

Meanwhile, on the night of July 3, a scooter (registration number AS05Q8328) was stolen from near Sanjiv Kalwar’s house, close to Kakgosani Than in Bokakhat town, which falls under Bokakhat police station. As of the time of reporting, the police have not been able to trace the stolen scooter.

In another incident, a Pulsar bike (registration number AS12J8608) belonging to Milan Subba was stolen from Manaspur, Bokakhat on the night of July 7. The bike was later found abandoned in a roadside drain behind the Bokakhat Civil Hospital and was recovered by the police on July 9.
