SIVASAGAR: Speaking at a one-day workshop on the Four Years Undergraduate Programme under NEP 2020, noted academic, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History, Dibrugarh University, Dr Chandan Kumar Sarma, highlighted the vision and mission of the New Education Policy 2020. The workshop was organized by IQAC, Gargaon College in collaboration with Nazira College recently. The resource person of the event, Dr Sarma presented a roadmap for how colleges must gear up for implementing the NEP. He said that NEP has opened up a vista for transforming India’s education sector to match the global level while retaining Indian uniqueness. He succinctly illustrated the modus operandi of the structure of the NEP 2022 and clarified the doubts of the audience regarding the NEP. Once, priority was given to the early specialization of streams. However, this rigid watertight compartmentalization has proved counterproductive for present times. Dr Sharma said that the NEP will give more flexibility to the students in choosing an assortment of courses for their overall development of personality and talents.
In his welcome note, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, noted academic, poet, and Principal of Gargaon College, pointed out the concept of the cluster of colleges brought about by NEP. He mentioned that an institutional collaboration has happened among Gargaon College, Nazira College, Namti College, and Amguri College. He urged all the stakeholders to work proactively and collectively to implement the NEP 2020 successfully.
The respective principals of Nazira College, Namti College, and Amguri College, Dr Raju Phukan, Dr Dhurbajyoti Nath, and Dr Ashfia Sultana graced the event. Inaugurating the workshop, Dr Ashfia Sultana stated that this is the right time for the teachers to dispel their doubts about the NEP and thanked Gargaon College for hosting the event.
Other dignitaries of the event, Dr Raju Phukan, and Dr Dhurbajyoti Nath, also expressed their good wishes to the organizers for conducting a workshop on a very relevant academic topic. They expressed their wholehearted willingness to work together in the future under the ‘cluster-college’ scheme.
Around 200 participants participated in the workshop consisting of the faculty members and the students of the host institution and nearby colleges. Devojani Bokolial moderated the event, and IQAC Coordinator of Gargaon College, Dr Surajit Saikia, offered vote of thanks.
