SILCHAR: The arrest of a former student of NIT Silchar with banned narcotic substances from Lalpani in Katlicherra was both a shocker as well as an eye opener as it showed how use of drugs had spread in students circle in the valley. On Thursday, Katlicherra police arrested Saig Gokhre, a resident of Maharashtra from a roadside hotel in Lalpani area where he came to sell drugs to a police personnel who feigned himself as a customer as a part of a trap. Gokhre during interrogation had reportedly confessed that he used to supply drugs to a few students of NIT. Police recovered 20 plastic containers containing 60 grams of narcotic substances. Gokhre said, he joined the electronic cum communication stream in the NIT in 2013 and passed out in 2019. Meanwhile, he came in the contact of drug peddlers and subsequently became a part of the racket as drugs peddling was an easy mean for quick buck. Police is investigating the matter.
