GUWAHATI: Tata Group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran on Tuesday, February 25, said that the company is looking to install 5 GW of renewable energy in the next 5 years in Assam and will invest in a large electronics manufacturing technology in Assam over the next few years, which will create employment opportunities for 30,000 youths.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, Chandrasekaran said, "The Tata group has a long and significant association with Assam." He highlighted the Rs. 27,000 crore semiconductor unit coming up in Jagiroad as "the most significant investment in the state so far."
Tata Electronics began the construction of its Rs. 27,000-crore chip assembly plant at Jagiroad in Morigaon district of Assam last year, which is expected to become operational next year and create 27,000 jobs initially.
The group will also partner with the state government in the green energy sector, with a commitment to invest in solar and other renewable power generation, Chandrasekaran said. "Tata Electronics is partnering with skilling industries to empower youths in the state," he further added.
Emphasizing how the government of Assam has set a benchmark in good governance for industrial growth, Chandrasekhar mentioned that Assam holds a special place in the heart of the Tata Group.
