Tea community integral part of greater Assamese state: Jagdish Baraik

The tea community is an integral part of the greater Assamese state, and the Assamese nationalistic thought, emotion, and self-respect flow through their veins.

GOLAGHAT: "The tea community is an integral part of the greater Assamese state, and the Assamese nationalistic thought, emotion, and self-respect flow through their veins. It is everyone's responsibility and duty to create an environment for the tea community's new generation to be drawn to Assamese language, literature, culture, art, tradition, and heritage." Jagadish Baraik, General Secretary of the All Assam Tea Students' Association (AATSA), made this statement as the chief guest at the oath-taking ceremony and full executive meeting of the Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Xabha held today.

Baraik also announced that the Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Sabha, under the leadership of the Axam Xahitya Xabha, will actively participate in the extensive programmes being implemented in the tea garden areas and tea gardens.

Notably, the Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Xabha, under the leadership of Diganta Kumar Bhuyan, has decided to organize workshops on Assamese language, Satriya dance, Bihu dance, Bargit, Lokageet, and literature in over 15 tea gardens in Golaghat District. Additionally, the branch has planned to organize a state-level poetry conference, a state-level recitation competition, a state-level young literature conference, and a young parliament under the auspices of its various sub-committees.

The oath-taking ceremony was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Sabha President Dr Putul Chandra Saikia. The oath was administered by Diganta Kumar Bhuyan, Central Executive of Axam Xahitya Xabha and founder of Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Sabha. The meeting also saw the formal handing over of charge to the newly-elected office bearers and sub-committee conveners.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Juri Das Rajkhowa, President of the Golaghat District Mahila Samiti and former chairman, Rupa Saikia, Secretary of the Golaghat District Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Dipa Barua, Vice-President of the Paschim Golaghat Xakha Sahitya Sabha, Prabin Kumar Das, General Secretary of the Golaghat Press Club, Chandan Karmakar, Organizing Secretary of the Golaghat District Sahitya Sabha, and Priyanka Saikia, Principal of Golaghat Reliance College. Ten office bearers of the social organization Warriors were also specially felicitated during the event.

In the meeting, it was also decided to confer the 'Assamese Folk Art and Culture Lifetime Achievement Award' on renowned cultural activist and Nrityacharya Pabitra Pran Bora at the open meeting on April 27, marking the re-establishment day of the Paschim Golaghat Branch Sahitya Sabha.
