TEZPUR: The historic Tezpur College, a premier institution of Sonitpur district, celebrated its 60th foundation day with a series of vibrant events that brought together current and former faculty, alumni, students, and dignitaries. The day’s programme began with the flag hoisting ceremony by the college Principal, Dr Manoj Kumar Hazarika. The event was attended by Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, President of the Tezpur College Governing Body Dr Swadhinata Mahanta, President of Kaliabor College Governing Body Dr Shibrangan Mahanta, and former Principal of Tezpur College Dr Charu Saharia Nath, among others.
In his welcome address, Dr Hazarika highlighted the various achievements of the college during his eight-month tenure as Principal and sought the cooperation of all teaching and non-teaching staff for the continued advancement of the institution.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Prithiraj Rava lauded Tezpur College’s glorious journey of academic excellence over the decades.
As part of the celebration, the college released its quarterly bulletin ‘The Heritage’ and the book ‘Gender: Issues, Perspective and Empowerment,’ edited by Dr Kishaloy Choudhury and Dr Bhanupriya Daimari of the Political Science department.
The event also featured the distribution of academic awards in memory of notable figures associated with the college. The ‘Best Reader Award,’ instituted in memory of Late Librarian Amulya Hazarika, was presented by his sister Ranu Hazarika, mother of the current Principal. The ‘Best Graduate Award’ in the Arts stream was conferred in memory of Late Principal Jogendra Nath Choudhury, with the award presented by his wife Jutika Choudhury, retired faculty member of the Political Science department. Similarly, in memory of Prof Bhairab Saikia, founder of the Assamese department, his daughter Dipika Saikia Bora awarded the student who secured the highest marks in Assamese.
Another highlight of the programme was the distribution of certificates to students who successfully completed the newly-introduced Skill Development course on Disaster Management. The nostalgic speeches by former faculty and alumni, recounting their memories and contributions, added a special touch to the event. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof Dr Debojit Dutta.
