TEZPUR: The ceremonial inauguration of the awareness campaign “Surokhit Axomor Babe Bator Nat”, focused on disaster preparedness through street plays, was held today under the aegis of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur, in collaboration with Edupur Society, Tezpur.
The event took place at Tezpur Court Chariali and was inaugurated by the MLA of Tezpur LAC Prithiraj Rava in the presence of District Commissioner cum Chairperson of DDMA, Sonitpur Ankur Bharali, Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayastha, Chief Executive Officer, Sonitpur Zilla Parishad Karabi Saikia Karan, Additional District Commissioner cum CEO of DDMA, Sonitpur Garga Mohan Das, DRR Consultant of ASDMA Bibek Mahato, and other dignitaries.
The inaugural programme featured a ceremonial performance of the street play and the flagging off of the street play van. The van and the team will tour all five revenue circles of the district, starting with Tezpur Revenue Circle. In his welcome address, District Commissioner Ankur Bharali emphasized the importance of public awareness of disaster preparedness and response. Prithiraj Rava, in his inaugural address, highlighted the significant role and contribution of youth in disaster preparedness and response efforts. The campaign aims to create widespread awareness about natural disasters such as floods and lightning. A total of 50 street plays will be performed, with 10 plays in each of the five revenue circles: Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, Naduar, Thelamara, and Chariduar. Additionally, awareness programs will be conducted through loudspeakers and the distribution of promotional leaflets.
Today’s event witnessed enthusiastic participation from invited guests, officials, and staff of the District Administration and DDMA, Sonitpur; members of Edupur Society, students from local schools, and members of the public.
