TEZPUR: In a prestigious ceremony held in Tezpur, the State Government formally conferred the Padma Shri Award upon eminent litterateur Geeta Upadhyay in recognition of her outstanding contributions to literature and education.
The event was graced by three Ministers of the Assam Government, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister for Environment & Forests and other departments, Dr Ronoj Pegu, Minister for Education and other departments, and Ashok Singhal, Minister for Health & Family Welfare and other departments. Also present were Ajay Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretary, Home & Political Department, and Partha Mazumdar, Secretary.
Local MLA Prithiraj Rava, Sonitpur District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, District Development Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia, Additional District Commissioner Kamal Boruah, Additional Superintendent of Police Madhurima Das, along with distinguished personalities from various fields and well-wishers, attended the ceremony to celebrate the honour bestowed upon Upadhyay. Geeta Upadhyay, a revered figure in Assam’s literary and educational circles, was awarded the Padma Shri 2025 for her lifelong dedication and invaluable service to the promotion of Assamese literature and education.
