TEZPUR: "Traditionally, universities are concentrated on teaching and the development of human resources. However, in the modern era, their role has expanded to actively contribute to the nation's progress through cutting-edge research and innovation," remarked Prof. VK Jain, a distinguished academician and former vice-chancellor of Tezpur University. He made these observations while delivering the oration as the chief guest during the 32nd Foundation Day celebrations of Tezpur University.
Prof. Jain highlighted the need for interdisciplinary research to address complex global challenges. He emphasized the significance of the National Research Foundation, an initiative by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), Government of India, which aims to support research across disciplines. He also lauded the One Nation One Subscription policy, which will provide inclusive access to over 13,000 scholarly journals from 30 major international publishers. Brindaban Goswami, former Education Minister of Assam and MLA of the Tezpur constituency graced the event as the guest of honour. He emphasized the University's responsibility to conduct research that utilizes Assam's natural resources for regional development. Goswami also reminded attendees of the university's origins in the historic Assam Movement and its role in fulfilling the aspirations of the new generation. Presiding over the celebrations, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh delivered the presidential address, urging the university community to draw inspiration from Assamese cultural icons like Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rava, Bhupen Hazarika, and Neelpawan Baruah.
"Our gate reflects Rupkonwar's legacy, our anthem is composed by Bhupen Hazarika, our emblem is designed by Neelpawan Baruah, and our auditorium is named after Kalaguru. These greats must fuel our inspiration and sense of responsibility," he said.
As part of the celebrations, the first issue of the Tezpur University Multidisciplinary Research Journal, edited by Prof. DC Baruah, Director of the Centre for Multidisciplinary Research, was inaugurated. The journal, to be published quarterly, aims to showcase innovative research across diverse fields.
