Bongaigaon/Kokrajhar: The much awaited and anticipated Dwijing Festival began on Thursday at the AIE River Park, Hagrama Bridge, Chirang, BTC. The festival, which is in its third edition this year, was inaugurated by State PHE Minister Rihon Daimary.
Speaking on the occasion, Rihon Daimary said, “Today, in its 3rd year of inception, the festival has created a benchmark for itself. We have people coming from all parts of the country as well as abroad. In the coming years, we hope that every individual will know about this festival and make Aie River a tourist hub for the nation.”
Gautam Talukdar, Deputy Commissioner of Chirang and president of Dwijing Festival 2018-19, hoisted the flag of the event. The festival will continue till January 7, 2019.
The day began with a marathon race from Chapaguri to AIE River, which was flagged off by international boxer and Arjuna awardee L.Sarita Devi. It was followed by inauguration of food stalls by State Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma. Rest of the day witnessed opening of Bodo traditional house, book stall, traditional stage, adventure sports, Dwijing night camp, demonstration and opening of rifle shooting, jeep and elephant safari. The second half of the day witnessed cultural programmes by various tribes, fire cracker show, performances by troupes from Bangladesh, performance by singer Anaya Brahma and band performance by famous singer Kailash Kher.
