TINSUKIA: A Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign for the lymphatic filariasis elimination programme is set to start from February 10 to 19 in the identified areas of Tinsukia district.
Addressing the mediapersons today, Additional District Commissioner (Health) Chinmoy Pathak said that as the microfilaria rate in Hapjan BPHC has been recorded at more than 1 percent, so the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) will be taken up at Hapjan BPHC, Tinsukia, and Makum Municipal areas along with three other districts of Assam as per guidelines of WHO and GoA. The MDA has envisaged 10-day booth-level activities and week-long house-to- house and 2 to 3-day mop-up approach, informed Sri Pathak, stating further that the disease is non-symptomatic during initial stages of infection and the parasite remains in infective stage from 10 to 40 years inside the human body. Dr Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Joint Director of Health Services, Tinsukia, specially urged the mediapersons to participate in the campaign in Makum and Tinsukia municipal/urban areas.
