Traffic constable dies after being thrown from moving truck in Kharupetia

Traffic police constable Shankha Dhar Saikia succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night after being abducted and thrown from a moving truck in broad daylight in Kharupetia town.

MANGALDAI: Traffic police constable Shankha Dhar Saikia succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night after being abducted and thrown from a moving truck in broad daylight in Kharupetia town.

According to police, the incident occurred when Constable Saikia, who was on duty at a busy traffic point in the heart of the town, tried to stop a covered trailer truck for allegedly jumping a traffic signal. An argument broke out between him and the driver.

The driver allegedly pulled the constable into the moving truck, drove for nearly one kilometre, and then threw him onto National Highway 15 before fleeing the scene. The shocking attack has sent ripples of anger and concern across the region.

Locals and police rushed the critically injured Saikia to a nearby hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to Mangaldai Civil Hospital and later shifted to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), where he died during treatment late on Thursday night.
