Tragedy at Madhura Waterfall: Two Silchar Youths Drown During Summer Outing

A midsummer outing turned fatal as two friends drowned at Madura river near Silchar city. The bodies of Rajdeep Das (23 years) and Biswajit Dutta (19 years) were later recovered

SILCHAR: A midsummer outing turned fatal as two friends drowned at Madura river near Silchar city. The bodies of Rajdeep Das (23 years) and Biswajit Dutta (19 years) were later recovered from Madhura Dayadisha waterfall. Both the deceased were from Kanakpur area of Silchar.

For the last few years, it has become a trend during the summer for a section of youths to venture out in the waterfalls in and around Madhura river. In the past too, there had been a number of such mishaps here.

On Sunday afternoon, five friends in a desperate search for a relief from summer heat, went to Madhura river for bathing. But unfortunately, a sudden and strong current swept away Rajdeep and Biswahit. Awe-struck, the other friends raised an alarm and local residents plunged into a rescue drive. Finally in the late evening, local Hmar residents first recovered the body of Rajdeep. He was taken to the nearby Public Health Centre where the doctors declared him brought dead. Rescue drive for Biswajit was delayed as it was already dark. However, the Hmar youths continued the search operation despite the darkness and finally recovered the body of Biswajit.
