My grandfather, Pramod Adhyapak whom I fondly called Damoni, has left for heavenly abode on Tuesday, June 10.
Born on March 1, 1941, in Pokamura, Jorhat to Late Atul Chanda Adhyapak and Kusum Adhyapak, he was a man of immense resilience and discipline. He graduated from JB College, Jorhat, in 1968, becoming the first graduate from his locality—a feat that set a benchmark of inspiration for many.
He went on to build a remarkable career with Assam State Transport Corporation, where he dedicated 39 years of his life. His commitment and hard work earned him numerous promotions and deep respect from all who worked with him.
Even after retirement, his service to society did not end. He started business at the Jorhat Development Authority supermarket and later served as the Executive President of the supermarket community for two years. He was also an integral part of the century-old Jorhat Puja Mandir, where he actively participated in various social initiatives and eventually became the president of the Jorhat Puja Committee. His devotion to serving people was tireless and sincere.
To me, he was much more than a grandfather. He was a storyteller, a mentor, and my personal hero. I will always remember the evenings filled with stories he told me, and the values he gently instilled through his own disciplined example. He lived with quiet dignity and gave so much to everyone around him.
On his Adya Shraddha today, I hope he has found peace, and I hope Damoni continues to guide me, just as he always did—with wisdom, warmth, and unwavering love.
Avikshita Baruah (Sreeja)
Granddaughter
