Union Minister V. Somanna Visits Dibrugarh Railway Station During Northeast Tour

V. Somanna, Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, visited Dibrugarh Railway Station on Saturday as part of his three-day tour to Assam and Northeast.

DIBRUGARH: V. Somanna, Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, visited Dibrugarh Railway Station on Saturday as part of his three-day tour to Assam and Northeast. 

During the visit, the minister, accompanied by senior railway officials, conducted an inspection to assess the ongoing developmental works at the station. 

The Dibrugarh Railway Station is being redeveloped with modern facilities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at an estimated cost of Rs 26.27 crores, which is expected to be completed by October 2025.

He also reviewed safety measures and the passenger amenities available at the station and held a review meeting with the railway officials with regard to the progress of important infrastructural works in the region, including railway electrification and the Murkongselek Pasighat New Line project. 

Addressing the media, he stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, railway infrastructure in Assam and the Northeast is witnessing rapid development. A record allocation of Rs 10,440 crores has been made for railways in the region in the Union Budget 2025-26. Till 2014, there was no railway electrification in Assam, but now 100% railway electrification is going to be completed by the end of 2025. Further, as many as 50 railway stations in Assam are being redeveloped as Amrit Stations.

During his visit, Somanna also visited the Bogibeel Rail-cum-Road Bridge. The Bogibeel Bridge is India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge, spanning the Brahmaputra River and linking Dibrugarh in the south to Dhemaji in the north. This vital infrastructure has significantly enhanced connectivity in the region.
