SILCHAR: As Silchar city gets ready for its first corporation election within next three months, both the newly-upgraded civic body as well as the state government seems to have stepped up activities to make urban lives smoother.
As a part of this, Kavitha Padmanabhan, Commissioner and Secretary of Housing and Urban Affairs, visited Silchar to review the status of urban infrastructure, civic amenities, and sanitation management in the town. The visit was aimed at assessing the on-ground conditions of key urban facilities and identifying areas for improvement to ensure sustainable and efficient urban development.
Padmanabhan inspected busy markets, arterial roads, municipal dumping yards, and boundary areas of the Urban Local Body (ULB) to examine the prevailing situation with regard to cleanliness, solid waste management, and general civic maintenance.
Recognizing the critical issue of waterlogging that affects several parts of the town, the Commissioner & Secretary also visited specific locations such as Rangirkhal, Longai Khal, and Sonai Road.
Following the field inspections, a detailed review meeting was convened with municipal officials and representatives of relevant stakeholders. The meeting deliberated on identified service gaps, inefficiencies, and potential solutions to enhance solid waste management, drainage systems, and overall urban service delivery in Silchar. The discussions underscored the need for coordinated efforts, timely interventions, and accountability at all levels to achieve tangible results that directly benefit the citizens.
