Watching budget session with high hopes: BKWAC CEM Mihiniswar Basumatary

BKWAC and UBPO leaders in Kokrajhar for the Assam Budget Session expressed high hopes for BKWAC's development in the ongoing discussions at BTC Legislative Assembly.

KOKRAJHAR: Leaders of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) and the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) who were in Kokrajhar to observe the state’s budget session began at BTC Legislative Assembly on Monday said they have high hopes for the development of BKWAC in the ongoing budget session.

Talking to The Sentinel, the CEM of BKWAC Mihiniswar Basumatary on Tuesday said they had high hopes for taking initiative for the meaningful development of BKWAC in the ongoing budget session. He said a delegation of the BKWAC led by him and UBPO called on the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at BTC on Monday and discussed the issues of the BKWAC in the presence of Speaker Biswajit Daimary, BTC Chief Pramod Boro and Minister Ashok Singhal. In the meeting, the pending issues like enhancement of fund to BKWAC, implementation of clause 6.3 of BTR accord, notification of villages of BKWAC, delimitation of constituencies of the council, rehabilitation of ex-BLT cadres of outside BTC districts and determination of Bodo villages of Sonitpur and Biswanath districts either with the BTR or BKWAC were discussed.

Basumatary said the meeting with the Chief Minister was productive. He said the Chief Minister had assured to hold the BKWAC election in September next, enhancement of budget to cover from Dhubri in the west to Dhemaji in the east, Golaghat in the south-east and Cachar in the south. He hoped that the notification of villages of BKWAC would be made very soon and the delimitation of constituencies would be carried out. He requested the Chief Minister to resolve the inclusion of isolated villages of Sonitpur and Biswanath districts having no continuity with the BTR to include either in BTR or in BKWAC. He also said that the government of Assam had agreed to release rehabilitation grant of Rs. 2 lakh each to the Ex-BLT cadres of outside BTC districts.

  Meanwhile, the UBPO hailed the cabinet decision to hold the BKWAC election in September and thanked the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for this initiative. They hoped the delimitation of constituencies would carry out and notification of villages would be made very soon. They also urged the government of Assam to enhance the BKWAC budget for smooth functioning.

Education secretary of BKWAC Jonaram Basumatary said in their meeting the Chief Minister had assured to hold separate TET for the Bodo medium schools outside BTC with certain considerations. He said they had been demanding implementation of clause 6.3 of BTR accord to bring solution of Bodo medium schools outside BTC.
