Workshop on technology intervention in Muga culture held at Gaurisagar

A workshop on Technology intervention in Muga culture was recently held at Gaurisagar Government Sericulture farm in Sivasagar district under the aegis of Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute (CMER&TI), Central Silk Board, Lahdoigarh.

GAURISAGAR: A workshop on Technology intervention in Muga culture was recently held at Gaurisagar Government Sericulture farm in Sivasagar district under the aegis of Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute (CMER&TI), Central Silk Board, Lahdoigarh.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. K.M.Vijaya Kumari, Director, CMER&TI, Lahdoigarh, Jorhat.

Further, the Director stressed on enhancement of farmers' production. Citing lab to land concept Dr. Vijaya Kumari emphasized that this workshop has organized to find out the problems barriers of farmers in development of muga cultivation.

In the seminar Kandarpa Sarmah, Assistant Director, Sericulture, Joysagar, Aboni Kalita, Assistant Director, Handloom and Textile, Sivasagar, Scientist Dr. Bitupon Das Scientist-D, Dr.Vijoy N Scientist-C, Scientist Dr. Mohesh from CMER & TI Lahdoigarh, Ashok Borah, Project Officer, Dr. Dipak Kumar Nath and Laxmi Narayan Saikia both extension officers of Borahibari Sericulture farm ,Amguri were present as resource persons.

In the workshop Dr. Dipak Kumar Nath and Laxmi Narayan Saikia imparted training to the cultivators on pest and practices on various diseases faced by the farmers since a long. The resource persons also stated that for rearing muga cultivation cleanliness and hygiene environment is utmost essential . Analyzing the production the resource persons highlighted that during covid pandemic situation the production of muga cultivation gradually increased comparatively the other days. They even urged upon the CMER&TI ,Central Silk Board, Lahdoigarh to initiative for research work on verse effect of mobile tower radiation, pollution of ONGC,OIL on muga silk worm. In the worshop a visual of Technology intervention in Muga culture was demonstrated by the scientists of CMER&TI.

The whole programme was anchored by scientist Dr. Bitupon Das. Earlier an exhibition was also held on this occasion and was inaugurated by Dr. K.M.Vijaya Kumari.

A total of hundred and above farmers hailing from various parts of Sivasagar district took part the workshop and exchanged their views with the resource persons.
