GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, February 17, issued a warning that isolated to scattered light rainfall is likely to hit Assam and other Northeastern states during the next seven days due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. "A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels," the IMD said.
Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall activity is expected over Arunachal Pradesh from February 17 to February 23, with heavy rainfall activity forecasted on February 19.
Isolated to scattered light rainfall activity is likely to occur in Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next seven days.
Thunderstorm & lightning activity is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from February 18 to February 20 with gusty winds (speed 30-40 km/h) over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on February 19.
Meanwhile, a separate western disturbance is also affecting northern and western parts of the country. Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad will receive light rainfall and snowfall on February 17-18, with thunderstorms and lightning likely on February 19-20. As the disturbance moves eastward, light rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand on February 19-20.
