Imphal: A half-holiday has been announced by the Manipur government on Monday, January 20, 2025, in memory of N Kayisii, the Tadubi MLA, who died following a prolonged illness.

Kayisii, 58, was the Senapati district's representative. In observance of the holiday, government and educational establishments will close at 1 PM.

An official statement issued by the Manipur Government stated, ""The governor of Manipur is pleased to declare half holiday on 20th January 2025 from 1 pm for all offices and educational institutions under the government of Manipur as a mark of respect to the memory of (Late) N Kayisii."

Additionally, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla expressed his condolences for Kayisii's demise.

In another news, leaders of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), representing Manipur’s Kuki-Zo tribal communities, met senior Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials in New Delhi to discuss their demands and the ongoing ethnic crisis.

The four-member delegation, led by Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet, highlighted the deteriorating situation in tribal areas, citing alleged bias by security personnel and state administration shortcomings. The KZC is pushing for a separate Union Territory for Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribal regions, supported by 13 organizations and 10 tribal MLAs.

The council previously submitted a memorandum to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla during his Churachandpur visit, requesting neutral central security forces, sanctity of buffer zones, and redrawing district police jurisdictions.

The memorandum detailed the ongoing violence’s toll, with over 220 deaths, 7,000 homes demolished, 360 places of worship destroyed, and 40,000 displaced. Governor Bhalla, during his maiden visit, urged collaboration with the administration to restore peace in the affected regions.
