IMPHAL: Lakhs of fish fingerlings were distributed to more than 200 affected individuals by Manipur’s Fisheries Department across five valley districts.

This commendable step is aimed at providing much needed assistance to farmers bearing the brunt of the devastating floods in the state.

The distribution event took place at the Directorate of Fisheries office complex and it witnessed the distribution of Pengba and Indian Major Carp fingerlings by Director Heisnam Balkrisna Singh and his team to farmers from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching districts.

The initiative was made possible due to the concerted efforts of the Manipur Fisheries Department and the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Bhubaneswar as part of the ICAR CIFA NEH outreach program.

This move comes in the aftermath of devastating floods that wreaked havoc in Manipur in late May, impacting over 1.88 lakh people and mutilating over 24,000 homes, mostly in the Imphal Valley.
