IMPHAL: General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Indian Army, a few days back, while addressing the security scenario of Northeast India stated that the scenario is getting much better with step-by-step improvements. He further articulated the situation in Manipur, giving credence to the synergized effort of the security forces and pro-active government measures for bringing that region under control.
General Dwivedi said, "About the Northeast, the overall situation is gradually improving. In Manipur, the coordinated actions of security forces and government initiatives have significantly stabilized the area." He said that although progress has been achieved, the random acts of violence are still there. The Army Chief said efforts are going on to ensure that lasting peace prevails in the region.
Apart from security measures, General Dwivedi emphasized the need for community outreach and reconciliation. He said that NGOs and military veterans are working together with local leaders to help understand and promote peace in the affected communities.
In fact, General Dwivedi said referring to the Indo-Myanmar border that the Army has further reinforced the mechanism of surveillance and domination to ward off any fallout of restiveness from Myanmar. He said, "Heightened surveillance and domination are on to insulate from the turbulence occurring in Myanmar."
Furthermore, the Army Chief discussed India’s preparedness for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, revealing that Rs 17 crores have been allocated to upgrade Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Quick Reaction Medical (QR) teams to bolster disaster response capabilities.
