Manipur: Internally Displaced Security Guard Shot and Injured by Unknown Gunmen in Imphal

IMPHAL: In the wee hours of Wednesday night, an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) working as a security guard at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, was shot and injured by unidentified armed men in Imphal West district.

The victim has been identified as a 28-year-old Leishangthem Kritingamba belonging to Meitei Leikai of Churachandpur district. He is reportedly dwelling in government-allotted quarters at Game Village Quarter, Langol, in Imphal West District police station. As per reports, he was dragged away by gun-toting goons and killed.

According to reports, Kritingamba was shot in his left calf and left by the side of the Employment Exchange office in the Imphal West district. The youth was found by locals and passersby around 9 pm on Wednesday who all reported that Kritingamba was very badly injured and needed hospitalization.

It was reported that upon receiving the emergency call, a team from Lamphel police station arrived at the scene immediately and took the injured man to RIMS hospital for immediate treatment. The authority has confirmed a case has been registered, and an investigation into the case has been underway to realize the motives behind such an attack.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of internally displaced persons in the region as well as the overall security situation in Imphal. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their probe to identify the perpetrators and circumstances that led to the shooting.
