IMPHAL: In a tragic incident in Manipur's Churachandpur district, a minor girl described as 'mentally challenged' was allegedly raped and murdered.
Officials reported that her body was discovered in a forest in the Thanlon sub-division on Friday.
The girl had gone to collect firewood in the Leijangphai area, and when she did not return, her father grew concerned and searched for her.
When the police found her body, her clothes were torn and there were clear signs of injury marks on her. A suspect was arrested, and an investigation is ongoing to discover the facts related to this gruesome crime. This is the third sexual assault case involving minor girls in Churachandpur district within a month.
Earlier this month, a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a boy in Churachandpur district, leading to the detention of the minor accused. In another incident last month, a Class 2 student was found dead at an internally displaced persons relief camp in the same district. Her body had an injury mark on her neck and bloodstains around it. The parents of the girl, as well as civil society groups like the Zomi Mothers' Association, alleged that she was killed after being sexually assaulted, casting severe doubt on the safety of children in the region.
