IMPHAL: In a significant operation against militant activities, Manipur Police and security forces apprehended several insurgents associated with various banned groups throughout the state.
On Wednesday (January 29), Manipur Police arrested two active members of the RPF/PLA who were involved in extorting money from shops in and around Paona Bazar. The arrested individuals have been identified as Nepram Bothe Meitei (24) and Yengkhom Gyandas Singh, also known as Dinku or Chaningkhomba (24).
The items recovered from their possession include a .32 pistol with a magazine containing seven rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, two mobile phones, a wallet with Rs. 6,210, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested two active members of PREPAK(PRO) from Tentha, under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Leishangthem Hemanta Singh, also known as Leishemba (41), and Kiyam Open Meitei, also known as Penthokpa (41).
On January 28, Central Forces apprehended three KYKL cadres and one UNLF-K cadre in the area between BP-85 and BP-86, Tengnoupal District. The arrested militants were subsequently handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rishikanta Laishram, also known as Malemnganba (32) – KYKL, Poireiton Leitanthem, also known as Tokio (26) – KYKL, Naorem Yohenba Singh, also known as Nongyai (26) – KYKL, and Kh. Malemnganba Meitei, also known as Phoungakpa (27) – UNLF-K. Seized items include a Khukri, two mobile phones, a power bank, four liquor bottles, two debit cards, an Aadhaar card, a voter ID, and a PAN card.
